First, you want something that is made with a sturdy fabric. Some of the best chairs are made with a heavy duty nylon. At the store, ask to see a demo model of the chair. See if the material feels thick. Take a seat in it and see how much the fabric gives. If you feel like you would be able to tear the material with your hands, then it probably won’t last very long under normal use.

The next thing you need to look at is the frame. Does it look sturdy? See if it feels like you could bend the legs of the chair with your hands. Good heavy duty camping chairs should have wide legs that are very solid. Wide legs also mean that the chair won’t sink into the mud when you are outdoors.

The last thing to need to consider is the weight of the chair. If this is something that you are going to be carrying often or carrying a long distance, it is best to pick a lightweight chair. Especially if you are going to have to haul it along with all your other camping equipment. However, don’t forget the points above. It is not worth it to buy a light weight chair that will break the first time you use it. There has to be a balance in all three items.
